Beirut: The Rip Tide

7 September 2011

I’m absolutely LOVE-ING the new album by Beirut. It’s got brass, it’s kinda folky, it’s kinda alt country, it’s kinda indy, they’re from Santa Fe (which is where my folks live) and the drummer has played with my brother’s band Gnosserrus. Check out Beirut’s new album ‘The Rip Tide’. Also, they’ll be at the Brixton […]

Bridesmaids: A Game Changer?

7 July 2011

In my book, there are a few things that mark a film out as a game changer. Genre mashes or twists. Innovation in film making. Elevated usage of new technology, and a unique approach to narrative. However, the recent film Bridesmaids is a game changer for me not because of style or genre or unique […]

Love. This. Song.

10 June 2011

I’m absolutely loving this song by Delicate Steve. Video is awesome too, with a priceless bit of interpretive dance. Check it out! Butterfly. (Update: wrong video before, link is correct now)

Beat of My Drum

6 June 2011

Erm, is it just me or is Nicola Robert’s new song kind of awesome? Loving the dancers in the vid too. Well done guys. Check it out. Beat of my Drum

Queen Bey- by Nikki Trow

6 June 2011

Okay, did anyone see Beyonce at the Billboard Awards? If so, you were in for a treat, ’cause she was a-maz-ing! Head and shoulders (and possibly torso) above most other pop stars. Her great vocals don’t falter whilst dancing. And when I say dancing….I don’t mean bustin out a few sexy moves….I mean DANCING, and […]

Pina (the film)

27 May 2011

After a hectic period of work, I finally had a chance to see the Wim Wender’s film PINA. Firstly, I should preface this review with the caveat that I L-O-V-E Pina Bausch, and no other choreographer (apart from Philippe Decoufle) holds a more special place in my heart. Secondly, I can’t really see 3D very […]

Attack the Block

23 May 2011

I just saw the excellent new film Attack the Block, written and directed by up and comer Joe Cornish of Adam and Joe Show fame. Lighter on comedy and heavier on action then I was expecting, Attack the Block is really a redemption story with a touch of British Social Drama.
