I just returned from Liverpool where I was working on the second season of the BBC’s ‘Peaky Blinders‘. Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill starred in the first season and Tom Hardy has been added to the cast for the second season. I choreographed a brilliantly wild and ferocious club scene. The show is set in 1922, but I wanted the choreography to feel current and convey the energy of the club. I used bits of the Charleston, but also referenced ‘animal dances’ from 1910 and sneaked in some Lindy Hop moves even though that style evolved out of the Break Away in the late 20s and 30s. The first season was compared to HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and was nominated for 6 BAFTAs. Be sure to check out the new season this Autumn. You’ll spot my work in the first scene. It was directed by Colm McCarthy who also directed one of the episodes in the BBC’s brilliant Sherlock.
Thanks to my assistants for their help on this. Brett Rosengreen, Rae Quartley, Mandy Montanez, and Matt Edmunds.
